- A Digital Single Market for Europe, Commission sets out 16 initiatives to make it happen. To this end, Vice-President Ansip presented a strategy built on three pillars:
- better access for consumers and businesses to digital goods and services across Europe;
- creating the right conditions and a level playing field for digital networks and innovative services to flourish;
- maximising the growth potential of the digital economy.
- Part of the proposal is to hurry up some of the most controversial digital issues such as the Data Protection Directive, the Telecoms Package, Cybercrime Directive and thePassenger Name Record (PNR).
- Germany has to deal with an outcry over allegations that its intelligence agency aided the NSA in spying on the Commission.
- Finally, an update on some of the most pressing competition cases: Google has received its statement of objection, and the Commission has sent a questionnaire to Qualcomm‘s competitors in order to survey whether or not the company abused of its dominant position.
